The institute is committed to advancing basic, applied, and strategic research in genetic resource management, crop improvement, crop production, and crop protection technologies to enhance the productivity, quality, and safety of spices. Following the revision of its mandate effective from 16 May 2016, the institute focuses on developing and promoting innovative technologies for safe and sustainable spice production. It also emphasizes the transfer of technologies, capacity building, and assessment of their impact to support farmers and the wider agricultural community. In addition, the institute coordinates research activities and validates emerging technologies under the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Spices, contributing to the continuous development and advancement of India’s spice sector.
